Annual presentation
In late November we held our annual presentation for clients. In the presentation we addressed the question "Should you be afraid?" by looking at two of the many issues that have been the source of angst for markets lately (why you might be afraid), by reviewing how the "intelligent investor" can profit over the long term (why you needn't be afraid), and by identifying the rational and productive responses of a "responsible investor" in such circumstances.
Nexus is Growing
We are pleased to welcome Mahmood Hassan to Nexus.
Mahmood will be working with Dianne to expand the capabilities we offer clients in financial counselling. As our business has grown, so has the importance of financial counselling as an adjunct to our investment management services. Mahmood comes to us from the Bank of Nova Scotia where he was a financial advisor and, prior to that, a personal banking officer. He is a Certified Financial Planner and is working toward the Chartered
Financial Analyst designation. He has also completed a Masters of Management in Finance from Queen’s University. Mahmood has experience preparing comprehensive financial plans for clients, including tax and investment planning.
Away from the office, Mahmood is married (to Zunera) and on weekends, when he is not studying for his Level III CFA exam, he likes to spend most of his time competing on the squash court or in the kitchen pushing his culinary boundaries. He attributes his good health, physique and energy largely to his two passions!
The next time you are in the office, please take a moment and say hello to Mahmood. Also, if the challenging conditions in markets are making you uneasy, or if you know of someone who could benefit from Nexus’ approach of integrating financial planning and investment management, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us.
We are pleased to welcome Jim Houston to Nexus to assume a new role leading our business development efforts. Jim joins Nexus most recently from the president’s role at a competing investment counsel firm, where he was responsible for a range of activities, including client development and the investment research process. Previously, Jim worked on the other side of "the Street" as an institutional equity salesman for both Credit Suisse and RBC Capital Markets. He began his career as a research analyst with Midland Doherty.
Interestingly, Jim has been a client of long-standing with Nexus and we know he explicitly understands our investment approach. In tumultuous times, he has the experience and expertise to tell the Nexus story to a broader audience than we have previously been reaching – leaving the rest of us more time for investment research and speaking with clients. Apart from speaking directly with potential clients of the Firm, Jim will also be reaching out to accountants, lawyers and other centres of influence who deal with individuals who might also benefit from the Nexus approach to investing.
Away from the office, Jim is married (Lisa) and has two sons. On week-ends, especially in winter-time, they can often be found in Creemore. Perhaps more importantly, Jim would be the odds-on favourite in a Nexus golf tournament, were we to have one.
If you know of someone who could benefit from Nexus’ approach to integrating financial planning and investment management, don’t hesitate to contact any of us or Jim directly.
